Selected work

Seven instrument platforms. One engineering team.

Every project below is production software running on hardware that hospitals and laboratories depend on.

ZellECHEM

A benchtop chemistry analyzer with the lab's QC built in

Sterile Safequip USA LLC

ZellECHEM covers routine blood work — liver and renal function, glucose, lipids, cardiac enzymes, immunoglobulins and electrolytes — from a benchtop the size of a desktop printer. We built the software that drives it: the photometric read pipeline, the assay engine, and the operator workstation on its 7-inch touchscreen.

The measurement layer supports endpoint, kinetic, fixed-time and bichromatic reads across six wavelengths plus two optional positions, with Peltier temperature control held between 25 and 37 °C and peristaltic aspiration of 200–1000 µL through an 18/32 µL flowcell. Each read mode carries its own timing and blanking rules.

Assays are data, not code. A hundred test programs are stored on the instrument and edited on-screen, so SSQ and its distributors can add or retune a method without a firmware release — and three-level Levey-Jennings quality control runs against them so a lab can evidence its own performance.

PurETO+

Cycle control and compliance records for ETO sterilization

Sterile Safequip & Chemicals Ltd

Ethylene oxide sterilization is unforgiving: pressure, humidity, temperature and gas concentration all have to hold inside a validated envelope, and a CSSD has to be able to prove afterwards that they did.

We built the supervisory layer that sequences the cycle, arbitrates the safety interlocks, and refuses to release a load whose parameters strayed. Every phase transition, alarm, operator action and override is written to an append-only audit trail with the operator identity attached.

Cycle records export as signed PDFs and structured data for the hospital's quality system, and a service mode gives engineers trend plots and sensor histories without exposing production controls.

ZellESR

Westergren-equivalent sedimentation, read by infrared

Sterile Safequip USA LLC

ESR is a slow test that laboratories still need quickly. ZellESR reads sedimentation optically with infrared LEDs rather than by eye against a column, and we wrote the acquisition and computation that turns those readings into a Westergren-equivalent result.

Sedimentation rate is temperature-dependent, so every measurement is compensated to 18 °C through the Manley table before it is reported — otherwise the same sample gives a different answer in a cold lab than a warm one. The optical chain holds ±1 mm accuracy and CV under 5% across the 1–140 mm/hr range.

All twenty channels are independently scheduled, so an urgent sample can be dropped in without waiting for a batch to clear, and a pre-indication is available at twelve minutes for clinicians who cannot wait the full hour. Results go out over HL7 and are retained on-board, nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine deep.

EiligPlaz & HyperPlaz

One software family for low-temperature plasma sterilization

Sterile Safequip & Chemicals Ltd

EiligPlaz and HyperPlaz form a family of low-temperature hydrogen peroxide plasma sterilizers for delicate instruments that steam would damage. Their control software manages the vacuum profile, H₂O₂ injection and plasma phases, with each product tuned to its own hardware, chamber and operator workflow.

We designed the software architecture so cycle logic, traceability, records and service conventions remain consistent across the family, while hardware integration and the HMI adapt to each product. Operators get a familiar, short path from load selection to a validated cycle.

Both products report cycle outcomes, consumable levels and fault codes to the fleet service back end over MQTT, helping SSQ triage faults before dispatching an engineer and deliver firmware updates over the air.

ZBT-ESR

ESR from the tube the lab already drew

Sterile Safequip USA LLC

Traditional ESR needs its own citrate tube, drawn alongside the CBC tube and then handled, stored and disposed of separately. The ZBT-ESR removes that draw entirely by running the test from the EDTA tube the laboratory already has, and the software is what makes the substitution defensible.

We built the control firmware and the computation that maps optical sedimentation in an EDTA sample onto the modified-Westergren scale, reported at 18 °C so results stay comparable with the method the lab used before.

Around it sits the routine machinery of a bench instrument: ten random-access channels holding up to sixty samples, barcode identification, a thermal printer, on-board retention of 9,999 results, and HL7 over RS-232 into the LIS.

ZellCLOT

Calling the clot at 620 nm, from 75 µL of plasma

Sterile Safequip USA LLC

Coagulation timing lives or dies on where you call the clot. A beam passes through the cuvette to a photodetector; as fibrin forms, transmission falls. We implemented the algorithms that watch that curve at 620 nm and identify the endpoint consistently across reagent lots and sample qualities.

The instrument starts its own reaction on dispense and incubates at 37 °C ± 0.2 °C, so the software owns the timing from the moment reagent meets plasma — with only 75–150 µL of plasma to work from, a missed start is a repeated draw.

Per-lot reagent parameters and ISI values carry through to ISI-corrected INR reporting, so a lab changing lots does not silently change its results. Assay definitions are data rather than code, which is what allows D-Dimer to be added without a firmware release.
